Hello world!

My name is Alex and this blog will be dedicated to my adventures in the world. My first trip will be my five-week trip to Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Please feel free to ask questions, I will answer them to the best of my knowledge. I will be writing in a diary form so that it is easy to tell what date I did what starting when I leave. I will be leaving on Tuesday the 18th of August.

About Iceland

Completely contradicting the name Iceland, it is actually mostly green, with the occasional volcano and glacier. Whereas Greenland is mostly white. Some facts about Iceland are:

  • Population: 325, 671
  • Area: 103,000
  • Tourists (2013): 807,300
  • Electricity Production from Renewables: 100%
  • GDP Growth: 3.5%
  • Sheep: 476,000
  • If Iceland were 100 People: 93 Icelandic, 3 Polish, 1 Nordic, 2 Other, 1 Asian
  • Belief Systems (in %): 75 Evangelical, 4 Catholic, 5 Free Lutheran, 1 Independent Congregation , 10 Other, 5 No Religion.
  • Population per sq. km: 3

  5. I am surprised at the number of evangelicals.

    A question I have is, what makes Icelandic people unique? For instance, how are they different than Nordic people?

    1. Well, they all seem to like the hands in jobs lik farming, fishing, parks, or cooking. They don’t seem to have a lot of computer oriented jobs. There are two though that I know of that are computer oriented, but I’m not 100% sure on the second one, they are power plants and aluminum smelting. If it doesn’t answer you question I’ll post something more in another blog post.

      1. Hi Alex, Thank you for the response. I notice I want to follow your blog but it seems like that in order to do so I have to make up my own website on wordpress. Do I simply follow you by clicking on the link your Mom sent whenever I remember, or is there are way to follow you by getting emails every time you update your blog? Thanks Alex for any help!
